2024 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter

The all-electric version of the iconic Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, called the eSprinter, is now available for the U.S. market. The eSprinter looks identical to the gasoline-powered model, offers the same customization options, and will even be assembled on the same production lines. The eSprinter's competitors include the Ford E-Transit, Rivian's delivery van, and the entertainment-focused Volkswagen ID Buzz.

Performance, Range and Charging

The eSprinter is available with two motors: a 100 kW motor with 134 hp for better efficiency and a 150 kW motor with 201 hp and about 295 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is 75 mph.

Battery: 113 kWh, providing up to 248 miles of range according to WLTP and around 200 miles according to EPA. Charging from 10% to 80% on a DC charger takes around 42 minutes at a charging speed of up to 115 kW.
Onboard charger: 9.6 kW for slow charging. An 81 kWh battery option will be available later for models with a shorter wheelbase.

Technologies

The standard MBUX infotainment system includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and voice control. The 10.3-inch display offers built-in navigation with route planning that takes into account range, available charging stations and traffic. Additional features include power seats, an automated sliding door, a heated windscreen and automatic climate control.

Opinion

Mercedes-Benz developed the eSprinter with the primary purpose of meeting the needs of courier service providers. With an impressive payload, reasonable range and compatibility with all the available equipment from the petrol models, the eSprinter is an attractive choice for companies in need of a reliable urban delivery vehicle. Although the eSprinter is priced higher than petrol models, the expected lower running costs make it a good value for money in the long term. With the ability to react quickly to traffic thanks to the instant torque of the electric motor, the eSprinter is well suited to urban environments.
