Frequently asked questions about

Types and purpose

1. What type of cable is suitable for my electric vehicle?

Charging cables are selected according to the electric vehicle connector:

  • Type 1 (SAE J1772):For older models, mostly from Asia.
  • Type 2 (IEC 62196-2):Most common in Europe.
  • CCS (Combined Charging System):For fast DC charging.
  • CHAdeMO:It is used by some Japanese and Korean cars.

2. What is the difference between a single-phase and a three-phase cable?

Single-phase cable:Supports charging up to 7.4 kW, suitable for home charging stations.

Three-phase cable:It provides higher power (up to 22 kW) and is suitable for faster charging, especially at public stations.

3. What is the standard length of charging cables?

Charging cables are usually between 5 and 10 meters long. Shorter cables are easier to store, but longer ones provide more flexibility.

4. What are the cable power limitations?

Cables have different power levels, which depend on the phases and current:

  • 3.7 kW:For standard household sockets.
  • 7.4 kW:For single-phase systems (32A).
  • 22 kW:For three-phase systems (32A per phase).
  • The cable must match the power of the charging station and the electric vehicle.

5. Can I use a Type 2 cable for an electric vehicle with a Type 1 connector?

Not directly, but it is possible with an adapter that converts Type 2 to Type 1.

Important features

6. What protections should the charging cable have?

High-quality cables should offer:

  • Surge protection.
  • Temperature management.
  • Short circuit protection.
  • Built-in residual current protection (DC < 6mA).

7. Can I charge my electric car during rain?

Yes, if the cable is IP54 or IP65 rated. This provides water and dust resistance, making it safe for outdoor use.

Management and payment

8. How do I maintain and store my cable?

Keep the cable away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Use a holder or storage box to prevent twisting and damage.

Check the connectors regularly for wear or dirt.
