2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class SUV

Mercedes-Benz's luxury electric SUV, the EQS-Class, is getting a Maybach version for 2024, based on the concept that debuted in 2021. It's the first all-electric Maybach model, and as always, it takes luxury to a new level. The EQS-Class SUV competes with models like the BMW iX and Tesla Model X in the three-row luxury electric SUV class.

Performance, Range and Charging

The 2024 EQS-Class SUV models use a 118-kWh battery, replacing the previous year's 108.4-kWh pack. AWD versions have 4Matic Disconnect to save energy, and all models feature a heat pump for better efficiency.

Technologies

The base EQS SUV model includes standard features such as power-folding mirrors, hands-free electric trunk, heated and ventilated front seats, air conditioning with pre-heating, ambient lighting and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system. For the Maybach version, there is a 17.7-inch screen and projected Maybach logos for all four doors, as well as a tablet for the middle row and an option for a refrigerator in the center console.

Opinion

The EQS-Class SUV impresses with modern technology and high-quality materials, being fast on straights and surprisingly good off-road. The off-road ride is solid, and the rear-wheel steering provides excellent maneuverability. However, the steering is somewhat lifeless, and the cabin can be too noisy on the road. The new Maybach model helps elevate the EQS-Class SUV to the highest luxury standards, but with its high price tag, it may be the most sensible choice for those looking for something different from the standard EQS450+.
